Bridget Regan versus Cassidy Freeman

Before: “I’ve been waiting to fight her for a long time now. I mean when I got management I told them that I wanted Regan and Righetti, Righetti and Regan. Then after getting to tangle with Amanda things seemed to shut down and to say I was pissed was an understatement. It seemed to take forever to get to Bridgy but here we are on the biggest stage, the welter championship, so I guess the wait was worth it.” Cassidy Freeman summarizes.

“She’s proven she belongs. You’ve got to be on your toes when you face someone of Cassidy’s caliber. You know there are some fights where you figure if you’re careful and play things conservatively, you’re going to win. This most definitely isn’t one of those fights. It’s going to be a barnburner.” Bridget Regan states.
Cassidy wearing white two piece with grey gloves and boxing shoes, her hair hanging loose. Regan in her signature black leather bikini, black gloves and calf boots, her hair in a tight ponytail.

Rd 1 Both girls circle cautiously, the wait for this fight seemingly giving the fighters butterflies. Regan throws two jabs Freeman catching them with one hand and countering with a left hand to the midsection. Regan steps back and rearms countering with another jab that knocks Freeman’s head back slightly as it connects. Fighters in tight now rock em sock style with their punching. Freeman getting in some good licks to the body but Regan keeps connecting to the noggin with jabs and some right crosses. Just before the bell Regan scores with an uppercut that catches Cassidy and brings the crowd to its feet and gets her a tight round.

Rd 2 Freeman circling Regan with gloves up looking for an opening but carefully. The previous round was close but Cassidy got a whiff of Bridgy Regs’ quickness and wants to keep her under wraps. Freeman moves in with a two punch combination catching Regan with the second, a right to the chin. Crowd on its feet again watching Freeman close in trying to inflict more damage. Lioness Lass shows off her own smooth darting in and out on Regan who covers up and counter punches with each lunge from Cassidy. Action now getting into gear with the two fighters having fleshed out the other. Cassidy the more aggressive of the two poking jabs and following up hoping to score big with a right cross or uppercut. Regan stalking like a big crocodile, barely seen above the water, as she flicks out her own jabs and plays defense on Freeman. Freeman getting aggressive but most of her punching is getting knocked away by Regan who seems content to counter puch during this round which goes Freeman’s way.

Rd 3 Regan shows a little more this round boncing around Freeman and scoring with some crisp jabs to the head. Freeman continuing on with her previous round being smooth yet careful against the combustible redhead. Cassidy jumps in on a few combinations while Regan is now jabbing and moving on the Lioness. Both girls in a full throttle mode now with leather hitting flesh being heard throughout the arena. Neither girl able to extract any real pain though, a testament to the ability and toughness on display in the ring. Both girls circling now each looking for an opening. Freeman moves in with a plant of her left leg and a right hand but Regan beats her to the spot and buggywhips the left side of Cassidy’s midsection with her own right. Freeman doubles over showing the first damage of the night and Regan strikes again with a three punch combination. Freeman covering up against the ropes while Regan puts the leather to her. Freeman hanging in there countering with her own combos but she’s only playing defense against the hard working champion. The pace is furious as the bell rings. Bazz girl gives Freeman a look of disdain as she saunters back to her corner.

Rd 4 Both girls looking for blood now. The crowd is fully engaged now as the pace is quicker and just as brutal as you would see for any other welter championship. Regan and Freeman throwing hard. Freeman connects with a jab that knocks back Regan’s head. She tries to follow up with a right hand but Regan ducks and counters with her own cross catching Freeman in the chops. Freeman not backing down an inch comes back with another jab catching Regan in the chin while Regan buggywhips her to the side again. Both fighters testing the other’s endurance and ability to accept pain moving at each other with their best punches. Crowd going crazy while the two fighters swing at each other. Freeman is again the aggressor with a short jab followed by a haymaker right that misses. Regan ducking comes back with an uppercut that catches Freeman sending her back against the ropes. Regan moves in to do some more damage but Freeman counters with a straight arm left that stops Regan in her tracks. Round is even despite being one of the more brutal ones delivered to the FCBA this year.

Rd 5 The fighters throwing jabs at center ring now each connecting on various occasions. Freeman starting to bleed from the nose while Regan’s left eyes is starting to swell. Both girls are wreaking havoc with vicious right hands. Each corner yelling for their fighter to cover up but it’s falling on deaf ears. Regan jabbing hard at Freeman, landing most of them as she backs the Lioness up against the ropes again. Cassidy deftly escapes with a move to the left and a slap to the side of Regan’s head as she goes. Bridgy Regs not backing down at all chasing Cassidy out to center ring where the furious battle continues. Freeman bobbing and weaving to avoid Regan’s right hand bombs which even when blocked hurt with their power. Freeman using the bob and weave technique to counter Regan’s assault with her own well time punches. The crowd watches the intensity of heads rocking back and bodies being bent by the incredibly strong punchers. Neither girl is willing to give an inch and near the end of the round Freeman lands a strong right hand but is staggered by a left hand uppercut from Bridgy Regs. Both girls landing significant punches but unable to budge the other in another even round.

Rd 6 More of the same with fighters in close now one trying to outmuscle the other. The short punches being thrown are no less deadly. Cassidy taking shots with an overhand right while Bridget cranks away with lefts and rights to the gut and jugs, real head on shoulder stuff. In close work now more like a shoving match as ref moves in to break it up. Fighters at center ring throwing jabs to initiate two and three punch combinations at a furious pace. Bridget connects with a solid left to Freeman’s nose snapping her head back. Freeman comes back with a jab and a roundhouse to Regan’s temple. DOWN GOES BRIDGY REGS! Shot to the head sends Bridget Regan down to the canvas on her hands and knees. Redhead is crawling around on the mat while the ref counts. Regan waits until even to get up and takes a standing 8. Freeman moves in heavy with right hand bombs pushing Regan back against the ropes. Bazz girl covers up hoping to outlast the bell as Cassidy tries to end things. The bell sounds and ref has to stop the onslaught by Freeman. Lioness fighter giving Regan a dark stare as she moves back to her corner.

Rd 7 Cassidy all business in this round. Bridget out with her hands up trying to protect herself as Freeman chops away with some impressive right hand work. Regan back up against the ropes covering up with an occasionally counter punch as she tries to recover from the blast that she took in the previous round. Freeman having her way with the muscular redhead occasionally rocking her head back with a stiff jab or a partially landed right cross. Still as the round winds down with Freeman dominating the scoring it looks as if Bridgy Regs is tucked in safe and secure adequately protecting herself from Freeman’s unrelenting assault. Lioness girl’s arms looking like they belong on an iron worker they are flexing and with sweat dripping off them. As the bell rings Freeman besides herself can be seen talking to herself as she walks back to her corner unable to have moved Bridget Regan during a what amounted to a free round.

Rd 8 Cassidy controlling things again as they start the round although Regan is no longer in retreat. She’s moving around and countering Freeman’s smooth punching technique which while it can’t be described as quick is graceful and smooth cutting right through Regan’s defenses. Regan now landing some stiff jabs whenever Freeman advances on her. Freeman’s punches still strong and crisp late in the fight. She’s bouncing off a leg and landing a punch while Regan is rocking her with jabs once again as the fight becomes less one sided again and the pace once more becomes more frenzied. Girls on their bicycles now trying to avoid any more damage from the other. Freeman gliding in with a jab and a right hand trying to wrap up the fight with points while Regan jabs and DOWN GOES FREEMAN! Cassidy taking bit too much for granted only getting stiff left hands from Regan but a Bridgy Regs right comes out of nowhere and now all sorts of exotic shapes are floating in front of her now. Freeman rolls over onto her belly and she’s up taking a standing eight count. Cassidy now all wobbly as she handles some extremely muscular punching from the welter champ. Freeman does a good job in survival mode for the rest of the round as Bridgy Regs does what she does as well as anyone, breaking down an opponent. The bell rings signaling a complete reversal of fortune in the match.

Rd 9 Freeman out with a determination not to let the fight get away from her doing her best to shake off the knockdown like a golfer moving on from a bad putt. Unfortunately she is met by a fierceness that she hasn’t seen yet in FCBA. Bridgy Regs is on fire as she moves in a direct line to Freeman and begins a clinic on how to torture your opponent with stiff jabbing. Cassidy getting knocked around the ring now with Regan in hot pursuit. Bazz fighter showing off robust ability moving Freeman around at will. Freeman countering with right hands at first but when the Bridgy Regs right hand bombs are added to the mix she’s forced to retreat to the ropes and withstand a horrific attack with leather against bone resonating throughout the arena along with the roar of the crowd.

Rd 10 Freeman knowing that she probably needs to win this round to pull this one out is aggressive and willing to take chances while Regan knows that she has to defend her razor thin lead but can’t afford to sit back on her haunches. Fighters trading their best punches at center ring. Freeman sparing nothing coming in with jabs followed by right uppercuts while Regan throws her own stiff lefts and tries to damage Cassidy with overhand rights. Crowd is a sea of screaming maniacs roaring their approval as they watch the two fighters move about the ring in what has turned into the incredibly close contest that was predicted. Freeman and Regan both on the offensive now, heads rocking back from solid punches. Freeman lands a shot to Regan’s midsection sending her back to the ropes. She tries to follow up with a two punch combination but Bridgy Regs’ right hand is waiting and DOWN GOES CASSIDY! Freeman tries to end things with an assault against the ropes but Regan catches her with an uppercut. Cassidy back up and after a quick check from the ref and a standing 8 she leans in on Regan trying to recover in time to change the tide. Regan powering into Freeman with punches to the body trying to keep the Lioness off her toes. Both fighters swinging away as the round ends oblivious to the bell. The ref has to step in and separate them as the two are desperate to get in a final meaningful punch.

Ref stands between the two fighters as the final knockdown by Bridget Regan proves to be the difference and her arm is raised. The two fighters hug it out both giving the other a lot of respect. Unanimous Decision Winner and still Welterweight Champion – Bridget Regan!

After: “Boy she’s tough! That one was going up and down and all over the place. I knew I was in trouble when she knocked me down cause at first I didn’t think I would be able to knock her down but I stayed calm and didn’t panic and then I got a couple of opportunities later on. Cassidy’s a player and let me know if you can find any difference in ability between her, myself and Big Red cause I can’t find any. If I were an FCBA fan I’d be scooping up tickets to Welter fights from now on. There’s going to be a lot more entertainment in this division than little girls snarking at each other.” Bridgy Regs tells the press after letting out a long sigh of relief to have this one off her back.
