CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER: “Fighting Ingenue Magazine Presents”

Results: Lookout / Writing: Archer

Before: “Fighting Ingenue:” pulls off a great promotional coup by landing the debut for young (she;’s 19) British Actress Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones”). Troian Bellsario has compiled a record of 11-12-0 in 4 years of celeb boxing action. Explains a “Fighting Ingenue” source: “I think Sophie’s people wanted someone with name recognition, but not a jobber or too overwhelming. That’s Tropian. Sophie will have a chance to show what she’s got—if anything. Troi? Well, she can’t afford a loss to a rookie, even one who is has a couple of inches on her. The weight? At her height, Sophie’s future is probably at light, but she’s on the borderline with bantam, that’s probably another reason they picked Bellisario.”

Sophie very classy during the pre-fight, redhead smiled politely, saying nice things about the reception she’s been getting and her future opponent. Or at least she does until she tells reporters with a winsome smile:

“I think Miss Bellisario is quite beatable. I would be very disappointed if I can’t win this fight. It’s not like I’ll be fighting Mary Winstead.”

Troian has been equally classy—at least up to that point—saying things like: “I’ve been over to the U.K. and I like fighting British girls, they can be very exciting.” However when she hears Sophie’s “she’s quite beatable” remarks, her dark eyes narrow and she snaps: “No, I am not Mary Elizabeth Winstead—but I am good enough of a fighter to give her one hot welcome to the FCBA!”
Sophie Turner comes to the ring in a black bikini with white trim, black gloves and boots (white lacing). Sophie’s red hair in a long battle braid down her back. Troian Belliario in white bikini (black trim) with white gloves and boots (black laces). Troian’s darfk hair pulled back in a simple ponytail. Chilly, but correct relations during referee’s instructions, curt swiping of gloves and they go to their respective corners for opening bell.

R1: Sophie shows good footwork moving out from her corner to meet Troian at midring. Troi licking out with punches aimed at rookie’s head to get her see stars early. Sophie remains calm and shows a good jab in response. Fighters circle each other still probing, but then Sophie finds Troian’s tummy and pumps some solid hooks into the exposed flesh. Troian responds in kind, firing counters into Sophie’s midsection and then brining fire up into Sophie’s breasts. Sophie executes a nice reverse and gets some thumping leather into Troi’s exposed ribs. Troi pulling away to protect her aching flank, but Sophie follows and manages to slip an uppercut under the PLP fighter’s heretofore untouched chin. Troi shaken by this punch, but keeps her balance and uses jab to keep Sophie back. Tight battle to the bell, but Sophie edges the more experienced Troian out by a narrow margin.

R2: Troian has a determined look on her face as she comes out for this and greets Sophie with a quick feint to the midsection, but smacking her chin with a s solid left/right combo. The redhead recoils and the brunette is after her with crisp straight rights and lefts to the face. Sophie does a quick move to the right, but then pulls to the left to draw Troi off-balance. Brunette gets the side of her head flattened against her shoulder by a determined right from Sophie, but Troian circles around and goes to the body for the next flurry. Sophie pulling back looking uncomfortable and trying to organize her jab, but Troian keeping her occupied with a steady peppering of punches. Sophie not completely breaking down, but she is definitely get lumped up around the cheeks and jaw by the time the round ends. Round goes to Troian Bellisario wide.

R3: Troian ready to keep Sophie on the defensive again this round, but the British fighter has her defenses ready and sharp jabbing makes Troi pay as she comes forward. Troi dogged in her attacks, but Sophie’s standing her ground and landing good counters. Troian finally forced to pull back, but now Sophie takes the offensive leaping forward with a lightning right to the temple that makes Troian’s knees tremble. Troian suddenly in trouble as Sophie hammers her to the belly and then snaps uppercuts into the chin. Troian gets her own jab going and forces Sophie back as the bell rings. Judges give round to Sophie Turner, but it’s close.

R4: Fireworks right from the bell as the two fighters charge each other and clash at center ring with an explosion of leather. Both heads rocked in this initial exchange and they both stagger back a few feet, but seconds later they are back at it. Really rapid fire punching as the two are toe to toe so close their straining bodies are pushing against each other. Referee keeping a close eye, but doesn’t otherwise interfere as the furious fighting has the crowd roaring with excitement. Troian forces Sophie back a few steps, but then Sophie digs in and forces Troian back. Then they start circling each other, but then go in close. Troian’s face now as bruised and swollen as Sophie’s, but both keep at it to the bell. No one is surprised that this round is declared a draw.

R5: More close in action from the start in this round. Sophie moves just a bit quicker and gives Troian a hard straight left to the eye. Troian responds with a right to Sophie’s eye, but then eats Sophie Turner hook into the belly. Troian’s upper body thrust forward and gives Sophie the chance to swing rights and lefts into both ideas of Troi’s jaws. Troian looking dazed, covers up as Sophie swarms in on her and then clinches to break up the attack. Sophie wastes no time in resuming the attack once the referee waves her in, but Troi now ready with the jab and this grows into another fierce exchange of leather at close range. Late in the round, Sophie uses short hooks to pound Troian’s midsection until the PLP fighter is obliged to get out of range. Troi steadies herself as Sophie comes back at her. Troian jab keeps Sophie at bay, but the British newcomer has won another close round.

R6: Despite repair work by their respective corners, both Troian and Sophie are sporting swollen and reddening lumps on cheeks, jaws and chin plus what look like the start of black eyes. Despite the damage, both fighters do not hesitate and head right for each other, but Troian quicker this time and thanks to a quick step to the side, she brings a crashing right over Sophie gloves to her chin. Sophie literally spun around by this punch, but is somehow still standing as Troian is upon trying to find the Brit’s head. Sophie must be woozy, but she shows an instinctive ability to keep moving and evade Troi’s incoming. Sophie then gets her jab going to give the American some painful pay back to mouth and nose. Troi dripping blood down her chin from a split lower lip, but she is now pumping hooks into Sophie’s belly doubling her up and making her scoot backwards. Sophie trying to get away, but gets blocked and finally driven to ropes where Troi leans to pin her against the strands with her body while using her left hand to smite Sophie’s midsection. Referee forces his way in to break this up, but Sophie looking very distressed. Troian on her once more as Sophie covers up face in gloves, her butt up against the ropes to help her keep standing through the leather storm. Bell rings. Troian looks more than little frustrated to see Sophie standing there, but the rookie has a shellshocked look on her face as she trudges back to her corner. Round wide to Troian Bellisario.

R7: Sophie Turner shows her determination by pulling herself together and going on the attack early in this round. She certainly surprises Troian who gets pasted by a straight Turner right to the mouth that splits that lower lip again and then sinks a meaty hook into Troi’s belly making her stutter-step backwards. However, Troian recovers her balance in the second minute and starts to pounding away again at Sophie’s body with some quick licks to the head whenever she spots an opening. As Troian’s punch rate climbs, Sophie’s declines and she is clearly running out of gas. Then as they enter the third minute, Troian rams a paralyzing hook to Sophie’s solar plexus and then catches her between the eyes with an left-right comb. Sophie’s knees just collapse and she pitches forward on her face as Troian steps aside. Sophie on her face, struggling to rise as the count begins but she can’t get either her arms or legs to cooperate. She is still struggling as the count reaches “…TEN!” It’s over!
The Winner: Troian Bellisario KO7

After: “She was no pushover,” Troian tells the press later, “she’s still a rookie with a lot to learn, but if she sticks with it, Sophie Turner will be a force in celebrity boxing. As for me, I am feeling very satisfied. I took punishment but hung in there until I could wear her down. I am really looking forward to my next fight.”

“I won’t try to hide my disappointment,” Sophie says to the press. “I think I could have beaten her but I took too much punishment and that tells me I need to work on my defensive skills. I do mean to continue in boxing and I hope this is not the last I’ve seen of Troian, she was a tough opponent, but I aim to be tougher next time we meet.”

No one can say Sophie Turner picked a cupcake for her debut, but you take on a Troian Bellisario, you stand a good chance of losing your first fight and that’s what happened. Sophie did show some good skills and determination, but they weren’t enough to get her the win. Her next fight should tell a lot more about the newcomer. (Oh, and “Fighting Ingenue” gets a post-fight photo of the two ladies both sporting the predicted black eyes and sheepish smiles. Does tell those who missed the fight that it was an exciting bout they now wish they had been there to see in person.
