THE WELTERWEIGHT REVIVAL

ORDER OF MERIT ROUND - 7th PLACE BOUT

Posted by Lookout! Boxing & Vassago on May 17, 2015, 1:46 pm

BEFORE: It's the fight to avoid the infamous wooden spoon as Jodi Lyn O'Keefe tries to bounce back from defeats to Paula Patton and Karen Gillan whereas Katharine McPhee succumbed to Megan Gale and Michelle Ryan in the previous two rounds and neither woman wants to leave the Welterweight Revival tournament with three losses to her name.

Katharine McPhee looked to make the most of the Revival exposure and accepted a challenge from Amanda Righetti however the PPV experience proved to be a disastrous one as perhaps expected and O'Keefe is quick to voice her favorite status with McPhee's post-Righetti recovery still being covered in a cloud of mystery. Yet if someone's bold enough to challenge one of the top pound-for-pound candidates out there, then she's poised to get the benefit of the doubt when facing a generally lacklustre opponent like O'Keefe.

Jodi Lyn O'Keefe wears a navy blue bikini set and black gloves. Katharine McPhee wears a red bikini set with white trim and red gloves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.

Round 1:
Both women square off in the middle of the ring seconds into the bout and while O'Keefe swings over the top trying to put the younger brunette under immediate pressure, she leaves herself exposed below the elbows and McPhee jumps into a midsection barrage that tames the overhand aggression down the stretch and enables her to back Jodi Lyn back to the ropes. O'Keefe shows superior commitement but lacks precision and fails to burst Katharine's guard wide open while getting pummelled around instead. She has to clinch McPhee but still eats solid jabbing onslaught and barks in anger with the fellow brunette thumping her body in surprisingly efficient fashion and leaving butt-in-ropes at the bell.

Round 2:
Jodi settles into a close range assault and shuts Katharine's midsection efforts in the opening minute while finally landing some crips shots between the guard. McPhee reverts into some head hunting down the stretch but loses the overhand exchange and has to seek respite in mid distance allowing her rival to dominate the action and swing more menacing punches around the temples. The fast tempo approach gives O'Keefe the edge but she still lacks that one big punch to really put McPhee under pressure and backs off into a clinching stalemate come the final minute.

Round 3:
There's that big punch early on with Katharine's head snapping wildly back & forth in wake of a huge left handed hook that found her brow ridge. McPhee sags on her knees thereafter and fails to apply the clinch as Jodi Lyn bursts through her guard and marks her face with a couple of lumps before drilling the navel and sending the younger brunette butt-in-ropes. McPhee struggles to wrestle her opponent away and has to soak up more punishment, this time it's O'Keefe working the body attack and hammering away at the ribcage to increase Kat's moaning volume. Jodi yelps in her efforts and keeps the fellow brunette trapped on the ropes, switches for more facial misery in the final minute and clubs the guard open again; McPhee's head snaps back a couple of times after a quick combo on the chin breaks through and has O'Keefe shaking her glove in delight at the bell.

Round 4:
O'Keefe thinks she's broken McPhee's resilience but a quick left-on-left overhand nails her on the nose and staggers into her heels with Kat seemingly going all-in here and desperately trying to avoid her fourth defeat in a row this season! A quick follow up slams Jodi on the mouth and whips her to the side; before she can either cover herself up or mount a proper response she gets pummelled back to the turnbuckle though with Katharine lashing out from both sides and clubbing the cheeks into pink patches as the Las Vegas crowd roars in support! It's Jodi's time to endure some butt-in-ropes misery; she tries to shove the fellow actress away but eats a flurry of uppercuts and wobbles forward when Kat wrenches her on the breadbasket and keeps her trapped and struggling to stretch her elbows for remainder of the round.

Round 5:
The close range brawling continues in the fifth with both women glued to attack each other; the single hand assault gives Katharine the early advantage though as she snaps Jodi's head a couple of times more and gives her further lumps on the otherwise pretty face. The moaning volume increases once more but O'Keefe refuses to buckle again and stand her ground with McPhee unable to push her onto the ropes and just trading single punches in chopping foxy boxing style. A late switch on the guts finally wobbles O'Keefe to the side and she really let Katharine in for the money there, a quick bump off rocks the older brunette's boobs and McPhee has the last laugh when she cross hooks the mouth and makes Jodi wince in pain just before the bell; a subsequent follow up only skims off the forehead though and prevents a looming knockdown with O'Keefe swaying on her heels already.

Round 6:
O'Keefe looks somewhat sluggish in her movements and one has to perhaps question her stamina here; McPhee bunny hops around her and seeks piercing her guard until a massive straight jab bursts her own mitts to the side and has Jodi Lyn jumping from the back foot and delivering a crushing hook to the jaw moments later! Katharine's black hair flies around her neck and the girl just sinks on her knees on the spot with a loud squeal having been dealt with the biggest punch of the night! Her arms drop low and she trembles badly while trying to maintain her balance... all to no avail as Jodi Lyn makes the most of the defence going MIA and blasts another right cross straight on the ear WHICH SIMPLY RAGDOLLS MCPHEE to the canvas with eyes closed! It's a huge knockout as the younger brunette doesn't even respond to the count and is left crippled on her side! Cue in some welter power with KO6 Jodi Lyn O'Keefe!!!

AFTER: That's the best thing about the big girls division, one punch can literally change everything around as Katharine McPhee just found out! She was destined to maul her opponent into all kinds of trouble according to most of the Caesars Palace audience but still managed to get caught and subsequently finished off into a KO daze. Jodi Lyn breaths very heavily while glaring over the fallen brunette and shakes her glove again however in somewhat tired fashion. She avoids the wooden spoon but had to work really hard for it, one can say she was perhaps lucky in sending McPhee down but that's the joy of the welterweights! It's never over until it's over and one simply cannot buy that kind of devastating power anywhere else! "That's why girls like Daniela Ruah and Brooklyn Decker chickened out!", she tells the announcer, "They can walk around the weight but just don't have the one punch killer instinct in her! It's about time someone talked about the girls who are here rather than the departures! It's only a seventh place but hell, I'll take it! It's still better than sitting all dandy in the frickin' lightweight!"

Final result: Jodi Lyn O'Keefe def. Katharine McPhee KO6.
