ORDER OF MERIT ROUND - 3rd PLACE BOUT

BEFORE: Many fans and pundits believed the Paula Patton vs Megan Gale fight would only happen in the Welterweight Revival final however a couple of upsets in the Wild Card round saw Patton stopped by Sarah Lancaster and Gale pounded out by Gemma Atkinson which means it's a damaged limitation contest on display here tonight with both women even more determined to prove their high stock. The loser will exit the tournament with just a single victory in three bouts and that's humiliating enough for a Floydian based girl like Gale and equally unimpressive for someone like Patton who's once scored the Upset Of The Year herself by beating Amanda Righetti.
There is no designated favorite coming into this fight even though Gale's sparring sessions with A-listers like Righetti or Katrina Law could provide the all important difference. However Patton's one of the most frequently performing independent boxers around which is especially vital when it comes to the welter division that lacks the flyweight or lightweight media buzz and sheer schedule numbers. Plus they're both regarded as pure punching menace and can settle any fight with a single assault. That's what the Las Vegas crowd hopes for as if the two previous fights on the card weren't good enough already!
Both girls sport a mean look on their faces and refuse to touch gloves during the introductions. Paula Patton wears an orange bandeau bikini and black gloves. Dark brown hair with black shades tied in a custom ponytail. Megan Gale wears a blue & silver bikini set and silver gloves. Dark brown hair tied in a high ponytail. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the welterweight division.
Round 1:
This is just big punching from the start as both women jump into aggressive frenzy like the title no less was on the line; the piercing jabs smack off both faces however Patton makes the all important break through and snaps Megan's head more frequently and forces her into defensive circles on the minute mark. The American keeps the hot pursuit going and wades in with more shots before Gale resumes her stance by switching onto the midsection and stopping Paula in her tracks albeit briefly. Following a quick shoving struggle Patton regains the upperhand and clubs the Aussie brunette between the gloves and reels her against the ropes where she jumps into a classic one/two combo that wobbles Gale into earmuff cover and prevents her from making any comeback before the bell.
Round 2:
Patton seeks more damage and lashes out at the otherwise fearless model however another vicious trade-off snaps the Ameircan's ponytail and gives Gale the advantage for a change. The clubbing hooks crash off Paula's cheeks as the aggressive approach dominates the show to keep the Las Vegas crowd roaring. It's a close range dust up that has Megan on top through the second minute however she's unable to trap the actress like Paula herself managed in the previous round. Patton hangs on tough from the back foot and swings around Megan's temples but she has to eventually yield real estate after a drilling low jab wrenches her navel and bends forward into a crisp uppercut on the jaw that makes Paula scream out in pain and cover up in immediate earmuff. Gale tries to press on with sheer power shots, is undone by the clock expiring just as she looked set to pummel her opponent back to the ropes though.
Round 3:
More close range punching has the crowd buzzing; both ponytails snap around after a right-on-right combo yet it's Megan who finds success with a quick switch on the guts that makes the actress moan in discomfort again. Gale targets the midsection area and while Patton shuts her off in a clinch for a while, ref calls for a break and allows Megan to resume jabbing mayhem at Paula's expense thereafter. Hectic struggles follows as Patton must seek respite during the second minute but that plays to her advantage as Megan loses the close range efficiency and is countered over the top afterwards. Single punches mark the closing stages of the round; Gale realizes she just can't find the groove in mid distance and Paula keeps her honest with more shots aimed at the head again.
Round 4:
The high tempo of the bout is abandoned early in the fourth and perhaps both these hellcats realize they're not fighting for CW teenager glory anymore; Gale tries to enforce the close range brawling and bounces off the tight guard leaving room for Patton to punish her guts instead. Another wrestling struggle is halted by the ref but this time Paula finds her mark quicker and slams a one/two combo on the lips to bend the model to the side. Before Megan can raise her arms again she gets nailed by a cross hook on the nose and bellows out into a moaning escape; she loses her footing though and fails to spot a right handed uppercut that shatters her guard and bounces off the jaw clean... Megan spins back onto the ropes and remains trapped as Paula's speed across the canvas is way superior, she finds more heavy jabs straight through the middle and pummels the mouth again to give the Australian brunette a nasty swelling before the round is over. Crowd anticipates a shift of power and Paula rains unanswered punches on her suddenly hapless rival's face and snaps Megan's head back & forth inside the last few seconds. At the bell she has to be restrained from the model who looks uneasy over the busted up lips and signals to the Floydian crew this is not what she expected here tonight at all!
Round 5:
Gale seeks the close range again but leaks precious energy in a fruitless pursuit of her much faster opponent. Paula's experienced enough to spot the winning recipe and only unloads a vicious barrage after Megan vents out her frustration with an angry scowl... BIG PUNCH PATTON!!! She simply nailed the Aussie on the eye with a clubbing hook and send her tumbling onto the ropes as most of the audience will have to watch it on replay too. Megan squeals her disarray but becomes glued to the ropes instead of just jumping away anywhere else... she holds up for the haymaker but Patton still wrenches her on the swollen lips and adds a swift hook on the left eye again... The guard was just nowhere to be seen and Gale trembles forward with another anguished cry... Moneymaker uppercut from Paula follows and it shuts Gale's eyes on the spot moments later just crashing into the jaw at full speed... DOWN GOES MEGAN... she just crumbles face first on the canvas and sails off into the sunset of doom... Lights out KO5 Paula Patton!!!
AFTER: Whoa! One can clearly see where Paula comes from with that huge punching display which just shattered one of the most feared welterweights around! But that probably tells how good Sarah Lancaster is herself after stopping the Mission Impossible saga actress during the Wild Card bouts! Top notch welter power at it's best to truly revive the divisional gods from the ashes! That knockout alone was worth the final battle and we're still not done in Vegas yet!
Paula looks strictly business after this highlight KO success, she probably knows she's poised to stay in hot demand regardless of the tournament result. Spare a thought for Megan though, the statesque model was the highest ranked fighter coming into the event however years of being left on the sidelines proved to be too difficult to overcome when facing a really tough competition. Because this wasn't about just getting the old names a decent farewell exposure, Gale was supposed to romp through the opposition and claim the overall crown yet the more recently active women like Atkinson and Patton simply had other ideas. It's a bad beat for Megan but not exactly for the division itself!
Final result: Paula Patton def. Megan Gale KO5.
