Jennifer Lawrence vs Dakota Johnson
by Lookout/Simgrrl

Before: Reports of Johnson's height (said to be 5'10”) proving false as the weigh-in shows her to be more/less the same height as Lawrence (5'8”). Weights are also close, but experience is all on J-Law's side. Johnson at least has good genes going for her (she's Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith's daughter and Melanie had something of a fighting rep...back in her day!)
“I'm excited to be getting this opportunity to show what I can do against a girl like Lawrence,” Johnson gushes to the press. “She's a terrific actress and her fights have been exciting. I think I can learn a lot by fighting her and – who knows – maybe I can pull the upset of the night!”
“She's got the pedigree,” J-Law concedes with a wry grin. “But then Theron's dog has a pedigree too, and she can't fight a lick. I admit I took this fight for one reason – they told me if I fought her I wouldn't have to watch '50 Shades of Gray' so I jumped at it.”
Lawrence in soft blue bikini, blue martial arts slippers and a pony tail. Johnson in a white thong bikini, black shoes and messy curls. Both with white gloves.
* * * *
During R1: Lawrence dominating the action early against an opponent who seems overwhelmed by the spectacle and the presence of an Oscar winning actress. Johnson barely landing ten punches in the round while Lawrence pretty much coasted thru the three minutes after establishing herself early on. Lawrence wins the round wide.

R2: Johnson over her nerves, out with a basic stance; pretty much 'coloring by the numbers' as she robotically jab-jab-crosses her way thru the first couple of minutes. Lawrence flashing her defensive chops, barely resorting to countering as she slips, escapes, ducks and dodges most of Johnson's attempts to hit her. At the bell, judges give the round to Johnson (close) more for her aggressive attempts than any particular success she achieved.

R3: More of the same. Johnson the aggressor, missing several wild punches, landing some ineffectual blows but not accomplishing anything of substance. Again, Lawrence defensive all the time, blocking and moving away, forcing Johnson to come forward throwing frantic punches that missed more often than not. At the bell, Lawrence spanks Johnson's butt to send her back to her corner. Judges, almost reluctantly, award the round to Dakota Johnson who “surges” into the lead after three.

R4: Lawrence gets serious. Jennifer out to make a point and she does. Lawrence lands three combinations in the first minute to get Johnson's attention, then rocks her with several more in the second minute. Dakota has no answer for Lawrence who sticks and moves with a gliding stride, moving to her left behind the jab, chopping up Johnson's beautiful face; lumping up her eyes with a steady drumbeat of leather. Jennifer wins round on points (wide)

R5: Oh-Oh. Lawrence gets careless and pays the price! J-Law showboating, playing with Johnson like a cat with a mouse, drops her left and Dakota rips into her with a straight right hand! Lawrence's head swivels and she nearly crumples to the mat, only kept upright by grabbing the top rope with her left hand. With Jennifer hanging on for dear life, Dakota hammers away at the Oscar-winner's body with both hands. At ringside, Mom Melanie Griffith is on her feet, screaming and yelling support; her bosom jumping and dancing in a sequined gown by Valentino to the delight of the crowd. Dakota chases J-Law across the ring, throwing leather from all angles, but she's unable to land the one big punch that might put Lawrence away (or at least down) and at the bell, Lawrence – though badly battered – is still upright. Still, Johnson wins the round (wide) to take a 3-2 lead on the scorecards.

R6: Lawrence, after getting an earful in her corner between rounds is all business this round. Working behind a stiff, firm, left jab, Jennifer hounds Johnson around the ring, never letting Dakota set her feet to punch. Johnson battered around the ring for much of the early going, but manages to land several solid connects down the stretch to narrow the scoring gap late. At the bell, it's clearly Lawrence's round, to even the rounds at 3 apiece, but on the scorecards it's still a close fight.

R7: Lawrence up-tempos and Johnson can't keep up. J-Law dictating the pace; keeping her left in Dakota's face and fitting the right in underneath. Johnson's starting to fade as the fight goes on, while Lawrence is picking up the pace! Jennifer landing hard punches to Johnson's body, taking the wind from her sails. Late in the round, Johnson clinching, hanging on for dear life, just trying to make it to the bell as J-Law digs to the body with both fists. Lawrence wins the round (wide).

R8: Jennifer out with a look of grim determination; hammering Johnson with both hands; landing two and three punch combinations in the opening minute. It's all too much for Johnson who goes down to her knees, then all fours at 53 seconds of the eighth round. The referee steps in to count but Johnson makes no attempt to rise, just sits back on her haunches and listens to the sound of her being counted out. Winner by KO8, Jennifer Lawrence.

After: “Another day at the office,” Lawrence sighs. “She put up a good fight, but I have to admit my heart really wasn't in it. I barely made an effort in the second and third rounds and still it was all she could do to win points off me. I figured in the fifth it was time to put a stop to it and from there it was pretty much over. She's a nice girl, and I'm sure she's a good actress, but she's not much of a fighter. Maybe in a year or two – with the right trainer.....” she shrugged.

“I was in over my head,” Dakota Johnson admitted. “I knew it coming in but thought maybe I could pull off a miracle and hurt her. I think I may have had a chance in the fifth round, I know I hurt her there. If I just could have gotten to her with one, maybe two, more punches, it could have been a different story. But she just had too much for me. I hope I can hang around and learn some more....maybe in a year or two I'll try her again.”
