ODETTE YUSTMAN versus ALI LARTER

Lioness Club Of America vs Floydian
Words: Vassago / Results: Lookout!

BEFORE: "I wish people stopped asking me about the Mary Elizabeth Winstead no-show!", Odette Yustman says before the fight, "This fight WILL happen sooner than you know it. It HAS to happen so I can resume my original stalking plan. This was just a bad timing. Just like when Yvonne Strahovski was on a roll and I got pushed off the platform by that Katy Perry creature. I wanted to elbow myself back in the contention and got shut off again. But well, Ali Larter is a big and powerful blonde who's a perfect victim for any aspiring brunette like me! They say I'm not vicious enough to slam the door in Katy Perry's face but they're all wrong. And once day I'm gonna make all the Strahovskis and Winsteads of this world realize that!"

It's true Odette's spend the last six months chasing shadows and settling for scraps ever since her original schedule collapsed in favor or a certain raven-haired singer from the almighty Front Street Stable. Not even the Ice Hotel title could have offered any solace after Miranda Kerr brutally took it over last February. However Odette remains ranked well inside the Top 10 by Boxing World Magazine and demands some respect from her peers even if she doesn't voice her concerns as loud as some less patient fighters who seemingly don't rely on actual boxing performance alone.

Things don't look so bright for Ali Larter though, the one time elite member of the lightweight division hasn't graced the rings since March 2013 and is literally a few losses away from calling it a day according to some rumors. However if she can beat someone like Yustman then all the retirement talk will be postponed on the spot and make the blonde the talk of the town again. After all, if Tricia Helfer could earn herself a title shot after 18 months away from the ring, there's nothing that can stop Larter from rising to the top again in case of beating the California brunette tonight.

Odette Yustman wears a black bikini with white trim and red gloves. Black hair tied in a sleek ponytail. Ali Larter wears a red bikini set and white gloves. Blonde hair in loose waves. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division.

Round 1:
There's no sign of Larter being so long away from the boards as she leaps straight into Yustman's path and clearly catches the brunette off guard by thumping her cheeks seconds into the bout and forcing an early cover. Odette gets outworked in close range and remains rooted to the spot as Larter drills her to the body and bumps off with a frantic effort to establish full control. The counterpunching response goes wayward too and Ali cross hooks the mitts aside to reel a hapless looking brunette towards the ropes where she resumes the midsection attack and signs off the action with another cross hook straight on the mouth to spin Odette's ponytail into circles.

Round 2:
Larter seeks more dominant display but meets stubborn defense this time as Odette engages the elite bendiness and just dances away from all the blonde's punches to wear her out briefly and slow the action down. Ali demands high tempo display and seems like losing her focus already as Odette bunny hops around her with single hand response that hardly inflicts any damage but teases Larter into some ill-fated decisions. Still, Ali's one of the most experienced girls around and even when she's angry, she keeps her opponents in tact and actually she manages to riffle some measured jabs into the body again as Yustman finally brings some artillery on board in the final minute and digs into the blonde's breadbasket as both women lock into a wrestling struggle that goes in favor of Larter who shows superior strength and bumps the brunette off onto the ropes where she can't put the icing on the cake though thanks to Yustman's quick escape.

Round 3:
Power overwhelms the agility early in the third as Ali wins another close range tangle and shuts the brunette off through sheer amount of punches that bounce off her face and render the elite bendiness irrelevant. Odette has to brawl it out but eats leather on the fly and gets backed into the ropes instead with Larter methodically and very impressively working her over hand over fist. The brunette begins to scowl in her efforts to shrug the veteran off but Ali keeps her trapped butt-in-ropes and just lays into her tummy come the final minute to leave visible bruised flesh and slump a hapless Yustman on her knees to really upset the betting odds now.

Round 4:
It's like Larter's never been away as her bullzdozing tactics shatter whatever Yustman's got and more punches crash off the cheeks that just trigger even louder yelps from the brunette. Odette's enforced brawling reminds everyone of the Miranda Kerr disaster and it's quite probable the blonde actually watched that very fight several times as she snaps the black ponytail around back & forth before lashing out to the body one more time and dumping the aching California girl back to the turnbuckle. Yustman just slumps on her rival's shoulder and just looks to survive all the tummy bashing before Ali actually moves up higher and bounces off the chin as well to shut the brunette's eyes and leave herself with a commanding lead after four rounds. Larter thinks she's got the girl on the verge of collapse and starts making gestures to the crowd while Odette just stares at her with little confidence and furiously spits out her mouthguard before heading back to LCA coach Claudia Schiffer for some advice.

Round 5:
Yustman's back to some weaving tactics and hoping for Larter to gas out any which way however the blonde is well aware of the scorecards and just lets the brunette do her thing. The action slows down again and Claudia Schiffer urges Odette to abandon the idea since Ali's not gonna fall for it and just restore her energy for later rounds. The hectic push brings Yustman some success as she ducks underneath a high jabbing to crash into Larter's rack but after a quick series she's blocked off and wrestled back to the ropes where she can only work single punches to the ribcage that Ali laughs off before drilling her navel instead. Odette fails to shake the blonde off for remainder of the round and the ref's not making her life easier too, he allows Larter to keep the clinch going and the blonde duly obeys by thumping more leather into her opponent's navel.

Round 6:
Odette's got a mountain to climb and Larter's experience exceeds anything Jennifer Carpenter threw at her before however for once the blonde doesn't enforce the early tempo and gets caught by a looping overhand that smacks her on the eye before the brunette flies in with uppercuts straight between the gloves. Ali's mounds suffer some leather test and the immediate response goes begging as Odette switches the bendy button again and sways away from the striking zone before crashing into her liver area instead. Larter yelps with anger but bounces off the forearms one more time and bends forward when Yustman engages into her most furious activity of the night and just lays it into the blonde's guts to reel her backwards and cover up into a desperate earmuff. However the barrage dissects the low guard anyway and forces Ali to lower her arms which opens the hole up high and Yustman cracks a heavy left hand on the ear followed by a straight right on the nose to sink Larter on her knees for the first time tonight and finally salvage some lioness pride.

Round 7:
Ali's not best pleased over that previous round but begins to suffer from fitness woes and is unable to match the brunette's speed across the canvas anymore. Odette's eyes glare with improved confidence now and the blonde's gassing out process is just what the doctor ordered as she can send measured counterpunches all over Larter's flesh and just watch her lose her temper again. Ali seeks more damage even if she's inflicted enough bruises on Yustman already yet she just falls into all the looping leather now as she struggles to close the range down. Odette sticks to single hand dissection of the blonde's resistance and Ali's really tired some the final minute and bellows out into avoiding the methodical onslaught rather than give anything back herself. Odette's still behind on the scorecards but looks much fitter of the two and Ali needs some time to recover her breath during the interval.

Round 8:
More of the same in the eight as Larter's unable to enforce her presence in the ring anymore while Yustman ups the tempo herself and buries the blonde under a jabbing barrage in the opening minute to stagger a moaning blonde in the middle of the ring before switching into looping her ribcage again. Ali lowers the guard too much as she doesn't show much agility and remains rooted to the spot which opens the door for a quick switch up high and Odette crashing into her chin with several uppercuts. Ali is pounded back to the ropes but misses almost of her punches from the back foot as Yustman easily ducks them and rips into the body again to sink the blonde into aching spasms which just fuel the brunette's efforts instead. Larter's trapped butt-in-ropes and unable to find any reserves and only now all those months away from the ring start to show as Odette slices her ribcage into a mush and buries more leather on the breadbasket to leave Ali screaming in pain at the bell and that's a shocking sight based on what happened in the first half of the fight.

Round 9:
It seems like Ali doesn't have the strength in her to last the distance and she falls into another Yustman barrage but this time the California actress fakes the low approach and blasts a heavy cross into the blonde's mouth instead that Larter never saw coming. She wobbles back on her heels with arms woefully dropped to the side and allows the brunette to send her mounds into a rocking dismay before another uppercut on the jaw has Ali sagging on jelly knees on the spot. The blonde struggles to even raise her arms now as Odette pounds her onto the ropes with more chest assault and destroys the high guard thereafter with a piercing series that smacks Larter's cheeks into a swollen mess. The blonde's head rocks back & forth as Odette tries her best to knock it off before the arms drop numb altogether and release Larter from her troubles. Yustman goes all ruthless and cracks a left/right combo on the nose that simply pulls the plug on Ali and SENDS HER SPAWLING DOWN ON THE CANVAS half way through the round. Larter lands on her left side and can only roll onto her face trying to catch some air but is left squealing in disarray when the count reaches the and it's all over! KO9 Odette Yustman in bruising come-from-behind fashion!

AFTER: Odette raises her arms in delight and displays that perfect smile again as she dances around the fallen blonde for a while before heading back to the Lioness corner and sharing hugs with coach Schiffer. This was strictly business performance from the Banshee starlet who just needed to let her emotions go after all the schedule mishaps in recent months. However her worrying habit of falling behind on points early hasn't been addressed and several pundits believe a more frequently active Larter would have little trouble with knocking the brunette out tonight. Odette laughs off the concerns for now and promises to stick around to witness Mary Elizabeth Winstead's first title defense to come later on the card.

Indeed the main question about Ali upon her comeback is whether she can physically handle ten rounds of boxing anymore? She looked very good through five rounds but didn't punish Odette enough and simply run out of gas when it mattered the most. She didn't even manage to protect the scorecards lead and was dead tired on her legs in the ninth when Yustman floored her with a vicious barrage. One can say Ali will never beat another second half knockdown in her life and must rely on finishing her opponents inside the opening rounds unless she dramatically improves her fitness. But the odds are stacked against her for the time being since she's not getting any younger. This being said, she remains a glamour scalp on anyone's resume and should find more work soon again!

Final result: Odette Yustman def. Ali Larter KO9.
