BEFORE:

"Obviously," says Padma with a stunning smile, "I have nothing to lose. I know why I'm here. I'm an opponent, here to get Swan back on track, nothing more. No one thinks I can win, even though I beat Decker and didn't get the decision and had Sobieski behind late. So, I'll just have to go out there and prove, AGAIN, that I can fight with the best in this division."

"She's a very good boxer," says Serinda with a nod. "Very slick, very smart. She's a challenge for me, no question. But, she's a challenge I have to meet at this point. And that's exactly what I'm going to do."

ROUND ONE:

O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'The Look You Give That Guy' by Eels, and here's the star of that video, the lovely Padma Lakshmi..."

McCarthy: "Yawn. Typical Dancing Hooker opponent. No FCBA wins..."

Tess: "True, but she HAS shown she's no pushover. She took Decker the distance and took Sobieski nine. Won some rounds in both, too..."

McCarthy: "I repeat. No wins."

O'Dell: "Lakshmi into the ring, helped off the with robe to reveal that orange number that always gets the crowd humming, and that's 'Foxey Lady' by Jimi Hendrix, and that can only mean 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan, is on her way to the ring..."

Cassie: "Serinda right now at the bottom of the lightweight pecking order at Front Street, and with Ruah, Decker, Perry, and Kesha all now at light full time, things are plenty crowded and competitive in this division..."

McCarthy: "And NONE of those girls should be ahead of Torv! What Weirdo ought to do is dump the lot of them...he could trade Perry since she got lucky and won the title, and cut the rest. He might get a decent fly or bantam for Katy, because he doesn't have one. Then he can push Torv the way she deserves to be pushed, instead of wasting time with window-dressing like Decker and Swan!"

O'Dell: "Serinda into the ring. Helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve to reveal that red bikini she often wears and the crowd VERY appreciative of what they're seeing..."

Tess: "And I'M appreciative that Mac didn't fire off her normal line when you said 'Hottest Player In The Game'..."

McCarthy: "Only because, right now, Swan's the hottest mess in the game, and, if Lakshmi beats her tonight, she'll bel looking for work tomorrow!"

O'Dell: "And the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess favors Serinda. Mac?"

McCarthy: "Even Swan has to be favored over a girl with NO wins..."

O'Dell: "Cassie?"

Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"

McCarthy: "It's anonymous. What a surprise..."

O'Dell: "I'd like to BE anonymous, but it's too late for that. There's the bell. Lakshmi moving silkily as usual. Popping out that long left, sliding her feet, angling up on Swan. Serinda thinking more straight ahead right now. Wants to advance behind the left like Decker in the last fight, but Lakshmi a master of misdirection, staying off center, getting the geometry right for her own punches while fouling Serinda's sights."

Tess: "Lakshmi one of those girls who proves that you don't have to be quicker or more athletic than your opponent to out box her. Swan's quicker and more athletic than Padma, but we've seen how smooth and slick Lakshmi is in the past, and you're seeing those skills again now."

O'Dell: "Serinda being patient. Taking her time to feel Padma out, probing her defenses for weaknesses, moving the feet well, trying to square the older woman up, though without much success."

Cassie: "Veteran stuff from Serinda. Sometimes, when a fighter's coming off a couple of tough losses, they come out firing, looking to get off fast, but that's not always a good idea."

O'Dell: "Little bit of cat and mouse going on now. Both fighters have settled into more defensive postures, each looking to bait the other into a mistake, walk her into something. Neither fighter taking the bait. Both very tactical right to the bell. Lakshmi's round."

McCarthy: "And Swan takes one more step toward the street."

ROUND TWO:

O'Dell: "Second begins with more tactical stuff from both fighters. Two gorgeous brunettes, both using the left to probe, moving the feet, keeping the head and shoulders moving. Lakshmi so long, and she uses that length beautifully. Swan has some of the best feet in the FCBA and you're seeing how those can be put to use as well."

McCarthy: "Lakshmi playing angles very well here. Swan bouncing, sliding, working hard to get square, but Padma just playing the geometry as well as it can be played."

O'Dell: "Serinda a bit more aggressive in this stanza, but still probing cautiously. She's looking to create with that left, dropping in more right hands, but she's not able to put much together in the face of the excellent defensive work she's seeing..."

Cassie: "And this is how Lakshmi gave Decker and Sobieski so many problems. You really have to work hard to solve these defenses."

O'Dell: "And, while you're doing that, she's snaking that left out, catching you with it, looking to bait you into spots where she can land the right. And there's plenty of power in that right hand, as we've seen before. Final seconds of another good round ticking off. There's the bell. Close. Swan."

Tess: "Even at 19. Good stuff so far."

ROUND THREE:

O'Dell: "Third round and a tactical clinic being put on by both fighters here. Both remaining almost infinitely patient, refusing to fall into traps, refusing to get into disadvantageous positions. Lakshmi's jab STRIKING out like a cobra. Coiling back then uncoiling very quickly. Swan bouncing forward, fires of a left-right and takes a good right hand counter."

Cassie: "This is how Padma can make you gun shy. Anything you do has a price and you'd better land, because, if not, you just took a good counter for nothing."

O'Dell: "Lakshmi doubling that jab. Swan picking, ducking, pops forward and WOBBLES PADMA'S KNEES WITH A RIGHT HAND!"

McCarthy: "Lakshmi's in trouble!"

O'Dell: "She is, indeed, because Swan's all in to finish this thing now. Padma backing and covering, wobbled again by a short left and sent stumbling into the ropes with a straight right! Referee looking closely as Lakshmi goes into the pocket. High guard, leaning back into the ropes. Swan putting her under heavy seige. Bouncing lefts and rights off the guard, now starting to buy body in bulk trying to bring the gloves down..."

McCarthy: "Give Lakshmi credit. She's not going to lower the guard..."

O'Dell: "She is not. Padma rolling the shoulders, jabbing back, trying to run clock. Swan SPLITS 'em with a right that stunned Padma, but there's the bell!"

Cassie: "That one might have done it, too. Ref looked ready to stop this thing."

O'Dell: "But Padma survives. It's Swan wide, but Serinda only up 29-28 after three."

ROUND FOUR:

O'Dell: "Fourth underway and Swanny on a mission now. She's right after Padma, no tactical stuff now. This is pure 'gonna hurt you' aggression. Lakshmi still a bit unsure of the legs. Willing to give ground and counter behind that high guard..."

McCarthy: "At some point here, Swan's going to have to slow the offensive and consolidate..."

O'Dell: "That she might, but not yet. Serinda backing Padma up, drilling out that piston left, trying to create a spot for that BIG RIGHT HAND AND DOWN GOES PADMA! Split 'em with the left and drilled the right to catch the chin behind the gloves!"

Tess: "Padma a 'Beautiful Wreck', down on her back, hands over her head..."

O'Dell: "Count at three. Four. Five..."

Cassie: "Going to say it again. After that head swivel..."

O'Dell: "Seven. Eight. Nine. TEN! It's over and your winner by KO4 is 'The Hottest Player In The Game', Serinda Swan!"

AFTER:

O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"

Tess: "I have our winner, Serinda Swan, and, Swanny, lots of maneuver in the first two, but you had a breakthrough in the third..."

Serinda: "You can spend all night boxing with this girl. She's got as good a skill set as just about anyone in the division. She gets you into the late rounds, she can box the clock and you're relying on the cards. I wasn't trying to do that..."

O'Dell: "And, obviously, a big result for you..."

Serinda(nodding): "You don't want to go into slumps around here. You'll get buried so deep you might never see the light again. I needed to get back on track. This year isn't over. There are still things I can accomplish. And this was a step in that direction."
