CELEBRITY BOXING AFTER DARK

Emma Watson seemed comfortable enough in her interview despite a long leave of absence from the league. "I'm sure some people are going to count me out given my vacation and loss of management, but neither of those things is going to give me trouble today."

"I think it's a little bit funny that she gets to be so high ranked despite disappearing for a year," commented Anna Popplewell. "So I thought I'd do something about that. I don't know if everyone's avoiding her, but she definitely doesn't scare me!"

Emma Watson made her entrance wearing gray trunks and bra. Popplewell, waving to the crowd and looking mostly concerned with making a good impression, had chosen to wear blue to the fight.

Round 1:
Staring Popplewell down with a determined expression, Watson entered the fight obviously looking to make good on her pre-match predictions. Popplewell was not cooperative. Weathering Watson's explosion of effort skillfully, Popplewell struck back at carefully chosen moments, puncturing the blonde's defenses often and staggering her a few times. At the bell, it was clear that Watson had gone all-in with nothing to show for it.

Round 2:
Having effectively ran headfirst into a brick wall in the first round, Watson surprised the commentators by setting herself up for a similar result in the second. This time, though Popplewell's defenses remained tight, the punches that slipped through rocked the brunette, to the point that her replies did not seem to slow Watson down.

Round 3:
Watson seemed to have gotten her strategy in order in the second round, and had clearly decided not to fix what wasn't broken in the third. Unfortunately, after her early round efforts began to fall short, Popplewell beat Watson to the punch midway through the round, catching her on the nose with a straight and putting a stop to her wild offense temporarily. For the next minute, Watson tried to regain her bearings as Popplewell methodically took her apart. The sudden turnaround culminated in a quick left-right from the brunette that sent Watson crashing to the ground on her side. The beaming brunette punched the air excitedly as Watson weakly pushed herself to a sitting position, interrupting Popplewell's celebrations by getting on her feet at the count of seven. Clearly in trouble, Watson stalled for the final seconds to safely collapse on her stool.

Round 4:
With her recovery time used up, the still dizzy Watson was forced to meet the eager Popplewell in the ring. What followed was entirely predictable -- Popplewell battered Watson while Watson tried to remain on her feet by whatever means necessary. While Popplewell landed no shortage of strong hits, it was Watson who was ultimately successful, returning to her corner on her feet when the bell rang.

Round 5:
Popplewell took the fight to Watson head on in the fifth round, tagging her in the body hard enough to make her misstep in the opening seconds. However, Popplewell was up against a much steadier Watson this time, and the blonde did not go quietly. Still, the exchanges of blows favored Popplewell, and once again Watson limped back to her stool facing her opponent's widening lead.

Round 6:
Popplewell faced even more resistance from Watson in the sixth round. While Watson was still not at her best, she was more aggressive, and each hit the brunette managed to land came at a cost. As the actresses fought it out, the crowd was on its feet, anticipating a dramatic finish to the fight -- presumably a win for Popplewell after a one sided match, though the brunette was looking worse for wear herself now that Watson had found her footing. In the end, the crowd had to sit in disappointment, as both fighters survived the round, though Watson's fans received the consolation prize of seeing their chosen fighter finish slightly ahead for once.

Round 7:
While it seemed that Watson's small success in the previous round might have been an anomaly, she proved otherwise when the fighter's clashed in the seventh round. Popplewell, having taken some heavy hits, was hurt -- slower to respond and defend -- and Watson was able to capitalize. Steadly wearing down Popplewell and briefly trapping her against the ropes twice, Watson was turning the fight around.

Round 8:
In the eighth round, Watson made her recovery obvious. Popplewell, still suffering from the previous rounds, could only alternate between covering up and high risk attacks, with predictable results as her still energetic opponent punished her each time. As Popplewell grew increasingly desperate, Watson became increasingly careful -- she needed no big change to win this fight. Finally, as one of Popplewell's weakened swings fell short again, Watson made her move, charging in and slamming her fists into the brunette's stomach in close succession. As Popplewell struggled to put off the loss, Watson followed up with a solid punch under the brunette's chin, nearly lifting her off the ground. Popplewell fell backwards, thudding against the mat with her arms splayed. By the count of five she had risen to a sitting position, holding her head and frowning, but by the count of ten she had made it no further. Watson had already abandoned the scene in a show of exaggerated calmness and disregard for her opponent when the result became official.

Sitting dejectedly in her corner, Popplewell could only watch as Watson enjoyed the spotlight for a win that seemed to be hers only minutes earlier. "I'll give my critics an apology," Watson stated on the podium. "Obviously, my situation has effected my performance, because a boxer of Anna's level should never have lasted so long in the ring with me."
