BEFORE: Charlotte Church has caused a stir towards the end of last month by openly questioning Helen Flanagan's level of performance that resulted in the blonde's American debut on the Asylum PPV where she sensationally knocked out Kat Dennings. Despite this exceptional result Church believes Flanagan "simply got lucky" and should remain over in the UK full-time taking a ton of punishment from someone like Charlotte herself!
It's rather obvious to Denise van Outen that the Welsh singer's position is seriously threatened now that several BBU based girls made the jump over the Atlantic and might want to try and squash the Flanagan mojo before it's too late however the Dennings victory indicates it might be too late already! The KO Club crowd shows surprisingly big support to Helen despite the Lioness Club presence in the opposite corner; some folks really didn't fancy the Nadia Forde support and even claim the Louise Glover fight was rigged to make the Welsh camp look good on the night and earn some bonus money under the table!
The fight is worthy of a title shot alone and both girls really mean it, they refuse to touch gloves during the introductions and are on the brink of losing their temper already. Helen Flanagan wears a dark blue bikini set and silver gloves. Blonde hair tied in a high ponytail on top of her head. Charlotte Church wears a red corset and white knickers with red gloves. Light brown hair tied in a bum at the back of her head. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the bantamweight division.
Round 1:
Charlotte is urged by the rampant Lioness supporters to stick it into Helen immediately after the bell but the blonde actress is well aware of that and covers the onslaught off with hectic but successful defensive circles in the opening minute before pouncing on the counter over the top and giving Church some spicy leather. Both girls trade big punches down the stretch as Charlotte just can't quite enforce her local status and wobbles into a midsection jabbing as a result with Helen pounding away in hit & duck mode and escaping response come the final minute. The Coronation Street stalwart has the reach advantage and takes full advantage of it as she smacks Charlotte's lips and drives her into more trembling but misses the really powerful shot and allows the Welsh singer to clinch her late in the going.
Round 2:
Both girls jump into a jabbing tirade midring where Helen's reach proves decisive again and enables her to thump solid overhands on the face and make Charlotte think better off it. Still, the KO Club urges the singer to tame the blonde's antics and an ill-advised leap claims a bloody mark as Flanagan rips her across the mouth to snap the head backwards and result in a fat lip on the spot. Church tries to brawl it out in close range but Helen reigns supreme power and wrestles her off before sticking more jabs to the body and driving a shockingly hapless Charlotte back to the turnbuckle where she remains until the bell desperately trying to outmuscle the Manchester-based actress albeit to no avail.
Round 3:
That Kat Dennings victory doesn't look like a fluke whatsoever and Charlotte may well regret her comments on twitter already as Helen picks her off from mid distance and silences the Barnet support with every punch landing on the singer's face. Charlotte's pummelled back into defensive circles and sends single hand response terribly wide of the mark whereas Flanagan keeps it on the front foot and stalks the ribcage to avoid the high guard as Church tries to avoid more bruises but it punched back to the turnbuckle again and can only wrap herself around the blonde actress in order to survive another difficult round.
Round 4:
Church seeks some aggressive breakthrough but just can't live with Flanagan's superior reach and gets blasted over the top again to sink on wobbly knees. She bellows out into a tight cover but Helen tears into her midriff anyway and bends her forward to crush the guard with a fearsome uppercut and flick a quick hook on the eye that really gets into Church's mindset. The Welsh singer takes a few steps back but that's all she can muster as Helen comes flying on top of her and splits the mitts with a jabbing frenzy to eventually find a cross hook on the nose THAT DUMPS CHARLOTTE FLAT ON HER BACK just before the two minute mark! The Barnet crowd was upset after the Lucy Mecklenburgh dirty show but now they're silenced as the Welsh brunette faces a mountain to climb now and just barely fends off the knockdown at seven. Helen displays a massive grin on her face and resumes the mid distance authority; she pounds a yelping singer back to the ropes and keeps stalking her ribcage as the high guard prevents Church from going down again but she's still getting her Welsh butt kicked big time here!
Round 5:
There's really no stopping Flanagan anymore as she whips immediate overhand leather to crush Charlotte's guard into shreds before switching to uppercut menace that snaps the singer's head back & forth until the chin slumps between her shoulders for good and sends the Welsh lass spinning into the ropes. There comes Helen with piercing jabs to rock the singer's head again and the gloves just slide by her waist and pave the way for a classic put away hook on the temple THAT SENDS CHARLOTTE DOWN ON HER SIDE in a pile of hot Welsh mess! Helen flaunts her overzealous boobs to the audience and swings her glove over at the Lioness corner but remarkably no beer cans are thrown this time despite a looming disaster for the local supporters. Church uses the ropes to climb to her feet at eight but looks to be running on borrowed time and just sinks deep into the corner after ref allows Flanagan to continue her methodical destruction of the proud singer. Church has nothing left to give and endures more facial punishment but Helen seems to be enjoying it too much and refuses to knock her out on the spot and steps back with few seconds on the clock remaining as Charlotte almost spits her guts out trying to catch some air. Bell.
Round 6:
Charlotte's on a walking pace now and becomes an easy target for Helen to pray on; the jabs slice through the guard left, right and center increasing the facial swelling down the stretch; all Flanagan her as she dumps an aching singer back onto the ropes and switches into pounding her midsection into a mush as Charlotte slumps on her knees and just wraps her arms around the blonde's waist but can't break free at all and gets whacked one punch after another. Helen has a field day in the office as she routs the lacklustre opponent even without putting a full effort. Charlotte starts to moan right into her ear and shuts her eyes as she is left stranded in the corner and just awaits the looming demise; Helen still wants to play around her for a little longer, she shoves her off and teases into any sort of attack; the problem is, Church is dead on her legs and unable to do anything about it... the teasing runs the clock down but the blonde actress doesn't seem to care as she struts back to her corner full of smiles!
Round 7:
Church somehow makes it back up for the seventh round but it's all over by the shouting and when she fails to duck a left hook seconds into the contest; Helen just knocks her sideways straight into the Lioness corner where coach Gina Wild is ready to throw in the towel against the Lioness Club home turf policy. Helen notices the towel in the German's hand and screams out in anger: "Don't you dare! I'm not finished here!" But it's too late and as Charlotte simply slumps onto her knees and bends her head against the canvas, Gina Wild gives her fighter in and forces the ref to push a visibly upset blonde away... TKO7 Helen Flanagan!!!
AFTER: That was a massive kick in the teeth for all the Lioness supporters who vent their frustration out on the victorious actress amid loud scuffle over the stoppage. Denise van Outen doesn't side with Helen whatsoever and points out she should have knocked Church all the way back to Cardiff a long time before the towel made it's way to the ring. However this result to add to the Dennings upset suggests that Flanagan is more than ready to emerge as a valid title contender over the summer. The only question remains whether the Manchester actress would actually like to have a shot at the winner of Jessica Schwarz vs Leah Dizon or follow Samia Ghadie's path to an extended foray onto the US market instead? On the other hand, Charlotte Church's title window was fully slammed in her face tonight and the proud Welsh lioness hasn't looked so out of depth & beat up since the day Miranda Kerr fractured her nose!
Final result: Helen Flanagan def. Charlotte Church TKO7 (Corner Stoppage).
