(Words: Bonzo / Results: Lookout!)

Before: Berkley and Righetti long-standing rivals from the old Technetium gym: the rivalry has been on hold for the last years, but both feel now is the right time to revisit it once again. Back in the day, Berkley was the undisputed welterweight boss at Tech, then Righetti suddenly moved to the weight and stole all her thunder – Berkley probably knows her best days are behind her, but the hatred is still there. Righetti with a Regan problem – her arch rival with an ongoing winning streak and back-to-back victories over biggest competitors is proving an increasing ego issue for proud redhead – knows her reaction to the bitter title fight loss will be keenly observed. “Liz’s still dangerous. Welterweights tend to get stronger as they get older, of course, losing quickness but winning in knockout power, so I’ll have to be careful.”

Fight: R1: Girls settle into clockwise, restrained jabbing: Berkley using height well to deny Righetti space early, as redhead has to go the extra mile to bob and weave her way closer throughout the round. Blonde only being tall, though: she’s just punching to hold foe at bay, while Righetti’s varying punches/combinations – eliminating height disadvantage through activity/precision – to take the first points in a close but unexciting first round.

R2:  Righetti with accurate aggression early, pumping jabs deep into Liz’s defenses, as hefty shoulders roll into rotation – backing up a startled Berkley into her corner. Big blonde affronted by the power display: ramming rowdy rights looking to drop her attacker all over the place. Amanda with unusual risk-taking – her head’s all jumpy from escaping those swingers – redhead simply not willing to give up position, though. Berkley’s kept trapped then, as Amanda bets on her chin and stamina, installing a high voltage jab feeder on blonde prey in corner, interchanging targets on chest/arms/face. Righetti’s doing damage that way and a good job of evading big blonde punches – until the middle mark: then Liz finally connects one of them with Amanda’s chin. Sharp head turn, Righetti, and Berkley rolls her body out of the corner like a beast – ready for counteraction damage. Righetti’s jabbing frantically to keep Berks at bay, but taller blonde intrudes her space with authority – Amanda’s all jiggled from side to side, caught in tight earmuff at ropes, now paying a price for her recklessness. Last minute: redhead’s legs slowly adjust to the power, and Liz’s punching turns more erratic, allowing Righetti to contain the Berkley dominance – Liz still punching up a torrent but Amanda’s counters a lot more pointed, snapping blonde off, then out of her rhythm at bell.

R3: Girls trading jabs mid-ring – Righetti’s more refined technique makes the difference. Redhead able to counter/outpace Berkley here, switching up tempo and intensity at will to confuse blonde. Liz looking sluggish/rusty in spots: she’s barely getting in targeted punches at all after a while as lefts and rights whiz past her defenses. Berkley strong-footed – standing her ground like a wall – but stopped dead in her tracks whenever she wants to march forward, unable to cope with the variety, the customized legwork. Righetti conservative in attack: she’ll go for heavy raids on Liz’s arms/shoulder blades when she can, but then reverses to lure Liz back forward to pick up blonde with way-too-quick two-lefts/one-right combinations, making Berkley plod along clunkily.

R4: Berkley not yet physically impaired, but her confidence’s banged up, seeming increasingly well-managed/figured-out by redhead. Righetti building up on last round’s strategy: using youth and speed to humble big blonde. Around the middle mark, Righetti starts to engage more, drawing Berkley into thudding crowd-pleasing exchanges, going for numbing/bruising body punches – Liz banging back, but getting increasingly out-punched. Amanda twists her legs/back into these power shots – thumping lefts into Berkley’s ribs, explodes into vicious rights to hairline, ripping uppercuts into foe’s tits, while Berkley gambles on booming counter rights that lack precision and can’t get Amanda to retrack. Redhead using leggy mobility: cutting ground off, exposing slowness. Berkley limited in her defense options: she’s sullen/grumpy, unable to deal with the tactics. Too often, she’ll just be roaring rights like a sledgehammer but she’s not making any impact.

R5:  Righetti shaking off last restraint: smothering Liz from the bell with fierce high-intensity jabs, viciously driving her blonde backwards, as Berkley just falls off pace. Blonde settles into tight siege, her trembling torso pitch-forked from side to side by thick/heavy punching. Throughout first minute, Rigs edges in ever closer to the body, shrugging off Berkley’s fading counters, sensing the right moment. Berkley disheveled/sweaty: proud frame humiliated body to body by Amanda’s weight of shot, her precision, the violence. Blonde now visibly ailing – constant grinding on shoulder-blades/arms taking mighty toll on ram-shackled engine room – punched DEEP into ropes: Liz is moaning in pain. Righetti switches initiative from body to head: blonde no longer impeding crushing combinations on left and right cheek, as Berkley’s head just flaps back and forth in the wind. Then, bulky jabs to sternum, followed by short right uppercut to chin – poor blonde’s head starts lolling, her arms dropping – Righetti tackling blonde’s body upward, before she finally finds Liz’s chin with a perfect booming right: blonde LOOSENED, as eyes roll back and big body sets into downward motion, delayed just for a bit, then tumbles into a face-first plunge! Berkley’s shiny broad back’s motionless on the ground, as Amanda struts back nonchalant, showing nothing more than a sly grin at helpless victim – that’s a KO5 Amanda Righetti!

After: Righetti not showing any sort of compassion for blonde victim: “This turned out to be a bit more emotional than I thought it would be, and that’s why I turned so aggressive early on. Fighting Liz always feels like turning back a schoolyard bully. She’s a physical bully, but once you actually punch her silly, she’ll fold up all right.” Disheartening fight for Berkley fans: blonde now probably just a one-punch fighter, lacking the physical stamina to assume her former ring elegance, as those legs are gone for good. Righetti proving mentally tough in difficult fight against early gym rival
