A few days before her match against Briana Evigan, Nicki Minaj addressed the press, but kept it brief. "This is just a career move for me," stated Nicki Minaj calmly. "I don't really care about her dancing, acting, or music. She's higher ranked than me, but I can knock her out and keep the streak going, and that's good enough."

Evigan had certainly earned her superior position in the rankings with three wins against quality competition -- earned in 2009. Since then, she had stepped into the ring three times without a win. Minaj, meanwhile, had been more active since 2014, winning four of five against relatively untested opponents. Minaj's success did not seem to bother Evigan. "Nicki's pretty much running face first into a brick wall this time. I actually had to look her up to find out what I was going up against, and, well, if you have to look somebody up, they're not a big deal. She's soft and squishy and she's probably going to give up and just shoot for going the distance after about round two."

Minaj smiled and waved as she walked into the arena, wearing white trunks and bra, but quickly adopted a more serious demeanor once in the ring -- Barbie persona discarded immediately once it was no longer needed. Evigan, in black trunks and bra, seemed more interested in getting the formalities out of the way so she could have a go at her rival, though the dancer did take a brief break to show off some of her moves to the delight of the fans.

Round 1:

Evigan's desire to get the fight started rapidly diminished as Minaj managed to surprise the brunette with her ferocity in the opening minute. Getting inside the taller woman's reach and foiling her attempts to drive her away, Minaj slammed her fists into Evigan's ribs and stomach. Evigan eventually fought off her attacker, but Minaj was persistent, overcoming the setbacks and having another go at the struggling brunette's body. Minaj had a victory on the scorecard at the end of the round, but she seemed more interested in watching a wincing Evigan flop onto her stool when the round ended.

Round 2:

While Minaj attempted to spend some more time getting up close and personal with Evigan in the second round, the brunette was less cooperative this time. Keeping Minaj at a distance with well timed punches and the threat of a painful follow up, Evigan picked up points as Minaj made the occasional mistake. This time, it was Minaj's turn to limp back to her corner defeated.

Round 3:

In the third round, it appeared that each fighter had learned to deal with the other. Minaj was more cautious, settling in for a longer fight, while Evigan was responding even more intelligently to Minaj's attacks. The result was a much closer round; Minaj spent plenty of time looking for an opening, only finding two for the duration of the round, one of which was interrupted by a desperate clinch from Evigan that the referee was forced to break up. Evigan made Minaj pay for each offense, of course, and in the end took the round on points, though the bruises she took in the process told a different story.

Round 4:

The race between the learning curves picked up in the fourth round. Early on, Evigan pulled ahead, using her reach advantage to keep Minaj back and fitting offense in when she got a chance. However, Minaj turned things around later, turning aside one of Evigan's attacks and getting at her tummy once again. While Evigan did not go quietly, Minaj would not be discouraged for long, and the round ended with Evigan in the corner taking a pounding from her relentless opponent.

Round 5:

Once again, Evigan did her best to keep Minaj at a distance to avoid being taken apart completely. Evigan, usually half in retreat, managed to do so well enough, ending up ahead on the scorecard to boot, but only barely. However, once again, Minaj got inside her reach and let her have it again, softening up her midsection up close before slamming an uppercut under her chin. Evigan's eyes crossed for a moment as she went into an ineffective cover up that allowed Minaj to strike freely. Once again, the end of the round probably saved Evigan from her opponent, allowing her to slump on her stool during the break, skin flushed and covered in sweat droplets. Minaj, meanwhile, made a show of looking relaxed and fixing her hair during the break.

Round 6:

Evigan, having played to her strengths as well as she could with disastrous results, picked up the pace in the sixth round. Taking the fight to Minaj with more enthusiasm this time, she pushed ahead and did her best to counter her dangerous opponent. The scorecards were difficult to call this time around; though Minaj certainly got her share of hits in, Evigan was able to drive her off each time before the rapper built up too much momentum. However, off of the cards, Evigan was clearly running out of gas.

Round 7:

Minaj moved to make the inevitable result official in the seventh round, chasing her opponent down and subjecting her to a strong offense with little difficulty. Already looking weak, Evigan became less dangerous to her rival by the second as Minaj made her punching power obvious. Two minutes into the round, Evigan was unable to do anything but dodge and parry, leaving Minaj free to strike at her. The rapper made short work of the wincing Evigan, slugging her on the jaw twice at the finish of a brutal combination. Evigan's eyes rolled as she tipped forward, landing flat on her face with her gloves above her head. The referee went through the motions of the count, but the result was obvious -- KO7 Minaj.

Evigan might have found something to be happy about if she were a particularly optimistic sort; fast asleep on the canvas, she was lucky enough to entirely miss Minaj's victory celebration. The rapper's Harajuku Barbie persona was back in action now that the fight was over, and though some of the effect might have been lost thanks to her practical hairstyle, athletic wear, and lack of makeup, her cute, feminine style did add an extra bit of humiliation to Evigan's camp.

"I gave her more than she could take. The usual, you know," commented Minaj after the dust had settled. "I think I'm a little bit ahead of my reputation right now. Girls come into the ring against me thinking that I'm going to be a free win. This b###h definitely isn't going to make that mistake again!"
