Teresa: 29 YO, 5’ 5 ¾ (1.67m), 4-0-0 (4 KO’s in BBU 2012-13), Lookout Atlantic Boxing

Before:  Australian actress Teresa Palmer (she has appeared in such films as “THE GRUDGE” “I AM NUMBER FOUR” and “WARM BODIES) smiles as she stands at the pre-fight podium.

“I didn’t expect it would take so long to finally make my stateside debut,” she says, “I had even stopped competing in the BBU after 2013. I have had some semi-private bouts here and back home in Australia, but I am rookie around here. I am just glad to have this chance to start showing what I can do.”

Willa Holland is cautious in her remarks: “We really didn’t have much recent tape on Teresa to help prepare me for this fight. I have to be alert to an opportunities to win. When you have a 3-6 record like I do, you can’t afford to make any mistakes that might cost you a win and I am not about to lose a fight to a 29 year old rookie.”

Teresa Palmer’s blonde head snaps to attention at that last remark and she gives the brunette a chilly glare. Willa just smiles back and lets the Australian fume.

On fight night, Willa Holland appears in a red leather bikini with matching boots and gloves (white laces on both) and Teresa is in a white leather bikini with golden spangles. Golden gloves and boots. Willa’s bobbed hair hanging loose, Teresa’s long blonde hair pulled back into a battle braid. Cool meeting with referee, but both fighters looking impatient, eager to get at each other.

R1: The bell rings and Willa and Teresa head right for each other. Willa shows some nice feinting to score to Teresa’s head with some quick punching. Teresa looks sluggish after taking those head shots and Willa more than happy to take advantage. Willa hooking hard to the Aussie’s blonde’s tummy, then going after Teresa’s jaw and chin. Teresa able to block these head shots, but then gets her breasts worked over. Teresa starting to get her jab going late in the round, but it’s not enough to keep Willa from winning the round.

R2: Teresa gets into the fight right at the start of this round. She lets Willa try to come in, then gives her a furious barrage of jabbing that busts up Willa’s face. The brunette falls back in shock and Teresa hops foreward to ram shots into Willa’s belly. Willa twisting under the attack, trying to organize her defenses as she backs up, but Teresa not giving her any breathing space. She keeps up the pressure until Willa is sliding along the ropes trying not to be pinned against. With nothing else working, Willa finally clinches Teresa repeatedly to break up the blonde momentum and gain herself some time. Teresa not backing off, but Willa does finally get her jab going and enough footwork to allow her some evasive maneuvers. Willa able to finish respectably, but it’s clearly Teresa Palmer’s round on the cards.

R3: Willa trying to be more aggressive this round, but runs into a Teresa Palmer hook to the guts that doubles her out with a groan. Teresa then slips in some nice uppercuts to the Holland chin and makes Willa stumble back, hunched over with her face in her gloves. Teresa starts dancing around the hurting American brunette mostly she’s striking at Willa’s sides and the top of her head. Not likely doing much damage to Willa, but Teresa’s really got the brunette bottled up defensively. Teresa backing up a bit, hoping she can get Willa out of her protective turtle-tactics and sure enough, when Willa raises her head she gets it clouted by Teresa striking from a sudden move to the right. Willa reeling away, covers up again and is backed into the ropes. Willa’s ribs are getting pounded hard, but she’s not able to do much about it except try to clinch (and Teresa pulls back whenever she tries that). Willa still on her feet at the bell but she looks achy and drained as she heads for her corner, Teresa smiling happily. She knows she’s won this one wide.

R4: Teresa seems to have decided to go after Willa Holland’s ribs again this round, but Willa’s fighting a better defensive campaign in this stanza. After their initial collision at mid round and Teresa’s shots at her sides, Willa starts circling around the blonde and firing shots over Teresa’s gloves into her eyes and forehead. Teresa not liking this strikes back at Willa’s head, but Willa’s showing upper body movement now and she’s not such a good target. Teresa then shifts to circling herself and this produces a swirling series of exchanges at mid-ring. It’s pretty even until Teresa slips a hard right cross over Willa’s gloves as she lunges in to strike herself. The right catches Willa in the jaw and staggers the brunette. Teresa swings back with the left, but Teresa ducks down and the left glances off the top of her head. Willa then puts a hook into Teresa’s sternum, but Teresa drives a hook of her own into Willa’s solar plexus. Willa falls back gasping, but she manages to keep her jab going to slow Teresa’s pursuit. Teresa frustrated when Willa slips away, shaken, but still on her feet. Teresa trying to corner Willa again and this is leads into another flurry of jabs. Willa gets one between eyes, but manages to swipe a shot off Teresa’s mouth at the bell. It’s a close one, but the judges give Teresa the edge as she now has 3 straight rounds in her column.

R5: Willa under pressure of that 1-3 round deficit, goes on the offensive early in this round. Just charging at Teresa and trying to drive her back through sheer weight in punching. Teresa trying to evade and block the onslaught, but Willa getting through to bang blonde cheeks around and then slipping an uppercut to chin. Teresa now feeling the pressure and heaving herself back at Willa in a counterattack midway through the stanza. Exciting punching action has the crowd cheering them on as Willa starts to duck more and more of Teresa’s punches while getting her own into the Australian’s body. Teresa breathing hard as the round ends., though she bitterly contests Willa’s late charges. Willa’s got some bruises to the face but Teresa’s face is even more lumped up and she continues to breath hard all the way back to her stool.

R6: Teresa trying to be aggressive in this round, but ends up chasing Willa who looks quite good at these evasive tactics. Crowd doesn’t much like it, but Willa’s got a reason for her tactics. Teresa is soon slowing down and showing signs of flagging endurance. Willa now stops running and goes on the attack. She works Teresa to the midsection to get the blonde’s guard down. Once this happens, Willa starts firing away at Teresa’s jaw and chin. Teresa’s head swiveled more than once until she can pull herself out of range.  However, Willa able to keep up with the tiring Teresa and maintain the pressure to the bell. Teresa tries bravely to cover her exhaustion, but there is a wobble in her walk and she sags wearily onto her stool.

R7: Teresa slow and cautious coming out of her corner. She looks like she’s trying to buy herself some recovery time, but Willa’s not about to let her have any. Willa maintaining steady pressure through the first minute, just working Teresa’s body and making her back up. Then Willa drives a blockbuster series of hooks to the belly that sends shudders through the blonde;s body and weakens her upper guard. Willa then just moves in with muscular uppercuts that knock Teresa’s gloves apart to strike at her chin. Hard to count how many of these shots land home, but Teresa just suddenly folds forward into Willa’s startled arms. Willa jumps back and lets Teresa’s nose bounce off her toes as she lands! Teresa lays there moaning softly as the referee counts and Willa watches from the neutral corner, Teresa manages to raise herself up on her elbows, but she looks around blankly as if wondering where she is and can do no more.
THE WINNER: WILLA HOLLAND KO7

After: Willa breaks into a big smile as the cheers of the crowd come pouring down on her. She walks around the ring with both arms raised in sweet victory. Meanwhile, a groggy Teresa Palmer is led back to her stool for examination by the ring physicians.

“She can hit hard., no doubt of that,” Willa tells reporters, “and I have the sore ribs to prove it. I think she just needs more conditioning. You just can’t make up that long a time away from the ring. She ran out of gas and I didn’t. I am very happy with this win and hope I am finally getting established around here.”

Teresa Palmer showing her basic toughness, does speak to the press later in the locker room, she says: “I was tired in those later rounds and that is something I mean to work on. I know if I can just get my conditioning right, I’ll be able to use my punching to win. I am sorry I didn’t win, but I am only just beginning. I will be back and I will be a winner.”

Most observers agree with Willa and Teresa that conditioning was the deciding factor here. Teresa tired after the first half and Willa was able to wear her down to set her up for the knockout. Willa shows signs of progress in footwork and defensive tactics, she could also stand up fairly well to Teresa’s punching, so this fight should definitely give Foxfire hope for their new bantam. It’s no fun to lose, but Teresa Palmer did show promise and maybe once the rust comes off, she’ll be back to winning once again.
