Oliva Munn vs. Kate Beckinsale (Las Vegas)
(Words: Front Street / Results: Lookout!)

BEFORE:

Two of the more entertaining interviews among the bantams, so, it's no surprise that the pre-fight is a lot of fun. "She is nothing more than a low-class ruffian," says Kate regally. "Some television reporter who got a break by stripping off her clothes! She's no actress, that's for certain. I'd say she was a brunette version of McCarthy, but, even Munn is a step above THAT bit of rabble. However, I shall treat her the same way I treated that blonde bimbo, to a ferocious beating at the hands of Kate The Great!"

"Man," says the Munn with a beautiful smile, "She sure does like to hear the sound of her own voice, doesn't she? Well, she might want to get all of her talking done now, because, when I'm done with her, she's going to be on a liquid diet with her jaw wired shut and talking is going to be a little painful."

ROUND ONE:

No surprise how this goes. Munn wants to close and bang, Kate wants to box. It's all about Olivia looking to bring the pain and Kate trying to manage her very aggressive foe. Beckinsale quickly establishes the left jab and uses that silky smooth movement she's capable of to keep Munn off and resetting. Munn, though, is plenty athletic and she gets to the spots she wants and gets leather home. Olivia careful and sound, but very aggressive, crowding Kate, forcing her to give ground, going body when she can, working hard to turn this into a physical contest, where she'll have the edge. Kate, meanwhile, is all about controlling the former champ, managing her, keeping her from getting onto one of those rolls that can make things very, very uncomfortable for an opponent. Mostly, Kate succeeds in doing that, but Olivia's working hard, scoring points, building up a lead while that's going on. At the bell, it's Munn's round and her 10-9 lead.

ROUND TWO:

Kate working the jab a little more, showing some deft footwork. She's always on the move and constantly has a glove in Olivia's face. There's no dancing, mind. That's not Kate's style. It's just smooth, no motion wasted movement to stay off center and get the angles she wants. But, the jab is the key. It's constantly finding range, constantly peppering Olivia's face, constantly slowing her down. Munn determined, however. Working hard to hit her spots and get off heavy when she does so. Again, it's a matter of each girl working hard to get the terms she wants, and making sure to take advantage when she has them. Both have their moments, but it's Kate who's getting more of what she needs. She's controlling Munn better, scoring more as Olivia tries to get her offense off, and keeping Munn's heavy rallies short and sweet. By the time the bell rings, while it's close, Kate's built a lead and evened the fight at 19.

ROUND THREE:

Munn forces the issue a bit more. She's walking through Kate's jab now, trying to crowd and bang. Beckinsale resolute, using good footwork to maintain distance, making the former champ work hard to close same, and making her pay the price to do so. And, about half way in, the price gets higher. Kate lands a brutal right hook that sends The Munnster staggering. And, then we get to see the Kate Beckinsale you only get to see when she has a girl hurt, the stone killer. You want to say she's "all in", but that doesn't really describe it, because there's no frenzy of activity, no wild winging of punches. No. It's too controlled for that. Too clinical. But, it's also plenty effective. She backs up Munn, corners her, and goes to work with both hands. She goes body, thumping Olivia's belly and ribs, working hard to bunch the former champ up and bring her guard down, then she goes upstairs, splitting the gloves and wobbling the knees more than once. Munn hanging on grimly, clinching, jabbing when she can. She takes a licking, but manages to keep on ticking. When the round ends, Livvy's standing, but Kate's done plenty of damage and claimed it wide to lead 29-28.

ROUND FOUR:

Kate looking to finish now. Munn's legs still a little iffy and Beckinsale notices immediately. She's backing the former champ up with hard right hands, all set up by that accurate left. Olivia gives ground until she's on the ropes taking, rolling the head and shoulders, firing back in counter in spots. Kate in rhythm, a blur of leather coming, each punch setting up the next until BOOM! It's a right hand counter from Munn and Beckinsale is GOBSMACKED! Kate wobbles, nearly goes down, and Munn explodes of the ropes. Now, THIS is what going "all in" looks like. Oliva is like a pack of crazed dogs, attacking from every angle, driving Kate before her in disarray, pinning her to the ropes and firing shot after shot from downtown. This is the physicality Munn brings to the table, and she's putting every ounce of it on Beckinsale, who's soaking it all up on shaking legs. Kate, though, still has the wits about her. Still jabbing back, doing more than enough to keep the referee from taking matters into his own hands. She runs clock. She takes a beating, but she runs clock. And, when the bell rings, just like Munn in the last round, Kate is wobbly but standing and we're even at 38.

ROUND FIVE:

Munn very aggressive even for Munn. She's looking for the finisher now, just as Beckinsale had done early in the last round, determined to get Kate out of there, but Beckinsale quickly turns to the counter and stabilizes. She's got the guard up, picking off punches, rolling with others, slipping, then firing back with solid counter punches. Munn no dummy. The former champ realizes there's no point in pushing the offensive further, so she backs the aggression down, gets back to work with the steady pressure, going body, taking a bit of canvas here and a bit there, not giving Kate the openings of earlier in the round. It settles into some very good boxing on both sides. Beckinsale off the defensive late in the round, popping the jab, hooking off it nicely. Livvy all about the body by then, thumping ribs and midsection, still applying steady pressure. Lots of leather getting through by the bell, which ends a close one claimed by Kate, who's back on the lead 48-47.

ROUND SIX:

Munn forward in a sound, controlled way. She's stepping in, forcing Kate to either exchange in close or give ground. Beckinsale chooses the latter, of course, using that excellent footwork and the accurate jab to manage Munn, keeping, for the most part, the angles and distances Kate wants and making Olivia work hard to get the positions she's looking for. But, Munn does work hard, keeps coming, thumps body at every opportunity, has Kate wincing a couple of times with shots to the midsection. Half way through a nasty hook to the belly button bunches Kate up and Munn lands a vicious right hand uppie. Beckinsale's knees wobble and she stumbles backward. Livvy a left jab and a follow on straight right and DOWN GOES KATE! Beckinsale blown to her back, arms at her sides, eyes aflutter as Munn turns back to her corner, hands raised in victory. She's sure it's over. Kate not moving as the referee counts, stays right where she is long past ten, making your winner by KO6 in brutal fashion Olivia Munn!

AFTER:

Munn a bit snarky as Beckinsale is brought around in stages on her stool. "I told you she wouldn't be talking after the fight," says Livvy with that gorgeous smile. "She's all royal and regal and all that and I'm just a girl from Oklahoma, but, guess what, 'Kate The Great', this girl from Oklahoma just whipped your a**. And, Mack, I know you're watching and I know you want to know. So, go ahead and give my people a call, and you'll find out. Just like Kate did."
