Bridget Regan versus Sarah Lancaster
Welterweight Championship

Before: “Sarah deserves some breaks going forward, that’s for sure. I mean I was so lucky to get on a club. It just makes success in this league so much more possible. I was impressed with how she handled herself in the welter tourney. There was some real talent in that event. You look at Gillian, Patton and Atkinson right in a row, that’s real good. Still I’ve got a job to do today and I plan on getting it done.” Bridget Regan starts with the gushing compliments first and then its Sarah’s turn.

“Wow! This really is it. I just knew I could get back here! The first thing I did after signing the contract was do some research. Ali Landry told me ‘She’s beatable but if you get caught by the right, well I hope that you bring some rosary beads.’ Jenny McCarthy said real loud ‘She’s silly putty. I gave her the big break she needed on St Patty’s day a few years ago. She got lucky.’” Causing the room of reporters to roar with laughter. “Then she took me aside and said real low, ‘but seriously, that right hand. Two things still give me nightmares, Brian Urlacher and that right hand.’ So that’s what I’ll be respecting tonight, a 3 time champ with a serious right hand.” Sarah Lancaster finishes off the lovefest. Cassie Scerbo and Brenda Song fidgeting in their chairs seem almost perturbed at the lack of snark and abundance of decency.

Rd 1 Both fighters dancing around each other cautiously. Regan zipping an occasional jab at Lancaster’s head. Sarah going low probing at her torso, Classic feeling out period. Regan moving to her left drawing Lancaster with her. Both fighters throwing more punches now looking to score. Suddenly Bridgy Regs doubles back to the left letting her left hand trail behind. A sudden twist of Regan’s body brings that left crashing down on Lancaster’s head. Sarah staggered by the punch immediately covers up. Classic feeling out period is over. Regan on the offensive with explosive left hand jabs and right crosses pummeling Sarah against the ropes. Lancaster holding out as best she can throwing counter punches that help keep Regan at bay. Bridgy Regs aggressive until the end of the round which she wins handily.

Rd 2 Regan out looking to inflict more damage but Lancaster is ready this time. She’s effectively matching Regan punch for punch as they square off at mid-ring. Girls are showing extraordinary quickness with welterweight power behind every punch. Crowd on its feet watching arms, shoulders and jugs take some serious punishment. Lancaster connecting with her right hand driving Regan back as the exchange continues. Both fighters throwing punches fast and furious, Regan up against the ropes, Lancaster on the offensive trying to break Bridgy Regs’ muscular defense. Regan making a smooth maneuver to her left, leaving a hard left hand for Sarah to chew on as she breezes by. The move is slick and brings the crowd back to its feet but Lancaster chases her down and lands some impressive punches to the body and missing with a left cross to the head. Regan feeling the hurt from the combination rocks back against the ropes and lets Lancaster have at it with some very crisp jabs and uppercuts coming in rapid fire succession against the redhead’s midsection and chin. Sarah taking charge during the round.

Rd 3 Regan none too happy to have Lancaster tie up the score lands a couple of punches to the brunette’s tummy right off the bat. Lancaster a bit doubled over leans in with a jab only to catch a Bridgy Regs autographed left hand to the chin. Regan feeling good again moving around the ring all loose and in command. Sarah not giving up or backing down goes to chase the well built redhead. Sarah taking punishment in order to score points on Regan. Bridget slapping Lancaster with jabs and right hands while Chuck’s sister bobs and weaves her way around the minefield of punches zooming past her to burrow in and work Regan’s midsection. Lancaster quick and every bit as powerful as Regan at this point but she’s taking multiple shots to the head and body for everyone she is able to land. Regan moving to her right stabs outward with two left jabs and rocks Lancaster putting an accent on the round.

Rd 4 Lancaster still looking a little disheveled at the beginning of the round. Regan spitting out some vicious jabs that zip all around Lancaster’s head. Regan using a long reach and a powerful arm to hit Lancaster at will. Lancaster covering up and moving with the muscular redhead looking for any kind of relief. Bridget continues to jab and LANCASTER DOUBLES OVER! The brunette fighter takes a right hand hard to the liver and she’s staggered. Bridgy Regs like a predator on a wounded animal. She moves in with a rapid succession of combinations pusing Lancaster up against the ropes. Sarah hanging on, blocking bombs being thrown all around her, letting her arms take the brunt of the punishment. The crowd is going wild taking in Bridget’s work out on Sarah. Still despite a full on assault Lancaster survives as the bell for the round rings.

Rd 5 Smelling salts and cold compresses in heavy use in Sarah’s corner. She’s nodding her head and listening to instructions from her cornerman so it’s readily apparent that her mitts and forearms took most of the damage inflicted by Regan. Fighters are at midring, Lancaster cautious but standing tall against an enraged Bridget Regan absolutely dedicated towards ending the fight. Regs moving in strong but her guard’s down and Lancaster’s right hand counter catches the Bazz fighter stopping her in her tracks. The crowd lets out a loud, collective “oooooh!” not expecting much of a defense with Lancaster’s tanks thought to be running on fumes. Both fighters trading punches. Sarah presses forward with her left leg planted and lands a series of right hands dancing in and out slapping the occasional jab at Regan to keep her off balance. Round ends with a slight edge and huge comeback for Lancaster.

Rd 6 Bridget Regan looking more and more annoyed after dominating a round only to lose the next one. To her thinking Sarah Lancaster should have been in the history books two rounds ago but here she is still hanging in there. She starts out managing Lancaster with her jab, moving her around the ring and setting up her right hand. Sarah working hard to keep up with Bridgy Regs but it’s becoming apparent that when Regan decides to take charge she’s in charge. Redhead feints to her right where Lancaster has to show respect only to double back with a shift of her hips so that she can land a left cross to Sarah’s torso. Sarah counters with her own left hand cross but she misses allowing a Regan right to wiz by at the speed of sound nicking her chin. Bridget regaining control this round with crisp well timed attacks. Picture perfect movements on display as Bridgy touches up the game brunette at will. Lancaster frustrated but not giving up. She’s organizing her own thrusts into Regan territory with combinations to the midsection. Still she’s not scoring enough to keep pace. Bridgy looking good with her quick slashing maneuvers showing a fighter with classic lines. As the round ends Regan gives Lancaster a good looking over as she makes her way to her corner as if checking to see if the athletic brunette has anything left.

Rd 7 Both fighters meeting at midring. Regan dancing on her toes almost jitterbugging Scerbo style looking for an opening that may end this contest. Lancaster stalking Regan with a deliberate pace using her jab, bobbing and weaving in and out of vicious punches slicing through the air all around her. Sarah undaunted keeps pressing Bridget. She’s not as quick but she’s sneaky enough getting jabs and combinations through and disrupting Bridget’s game plan. The two fighters doing their thing when Lancaster steps up and lands a stiff right to Regan’s jaw bringing the crowd to its feet. She’s been able to find the smallest of seams and exploit them to score some valuable points on Regan. In the end Sarah takes the round by a slim margin once again letting Bridget Regan know that she’s not going anywhere.

Rd 8 Sarah having recovered well enough from the beat down in round six moves freely around the ring looking to match jabs with Regan. Both fighters pushing hard in this round, for Regan it would go a long way towards locking things down with five rounds in her favor with two to go while Lancaster has rekindled some hope by winning the previous round. Lancaster hopping in and out of the danger zone made up of Regan power punches trying desperately to score points when in front of Bridget. Regan using lateral movements to avoid Sarah and going all in with her offense. Bridgy Regs finding open angles and taking advantage touching Sarah up around the head. Lancaster staying calm looking for her openings. Regan moves to her right and goes for the knock out with a right cross. Sarah turns her head missing calamity by a millisecond and goes to the gut with her own right freezing Regan folling up with a slick left cross and DOWN GOES BRIDGY REGS! Lancaster missing all with her left cross finally catches Bridget on the jaw and sends her down on her butt. Ref counts and watches Regan try and climb back up and into the fight. She’s almost there at seven but she’s back down and the winner and new Welterweight Champion in a HUGE UPSET! SARAH LANCASTER!

After: Sarah Lancaster in tears at midring. Bridget Regan comes over having recovered from the knock down and puts an arm around Sarah, talks briefly to her and then climbs out of the ring. “This is just incredible! It’s been such a long road back and this is just so hard to do on your own as an indie!” Sarah sobs now leaning back against the turnbuckle in her corner surrounded by press and flashing cameras. Asked what Bridget Regan said to her after the fight Sarah gleefully reports “She told me, ‘Man you sure outsmarted and outboxed me tonight.’ I just outsmarted and outboxed Bridget Regan! She’s one of the greatest in this division! I’m the champ!” Sarah squeals jumping up and down and allowing her corner crew in to start the celebration after pulling off a landmark upset.
